Single Textbook @ Citizens to be Heard

On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, members of the SAC Student Government Association, SAC Faculty Senate, SAC AAUP, PAC Student Government Association, a lone Palo Alto College student and the SAC Adjunct Faculty chair all made presentations in protest of the “single textbook per course” decision recently made by the District Presidents and Vice Chancellors (PVC.) The decision was made in an effort to address the Board of Trustees concern over rising textbook costs. As the presentations show, more data is needed before this decision is enacted.

Citizens to be Heard starts at minute 37, SAC AAUP starts at minute 48:

Board Meeting Tonight: Single Textbook @ Citizens to be Heard

The SAC Student Government Association, SAC Faculty Senate, and SAC chapter of the AAUP will be giving presentations during Citizens to be Heard. At issue is the latest requirement from District which states that faculty are required to use a single textbook per course. Issues of student cost, academic freedom, and publisher/bookstore profits will be highlighted.

We’ll try to post copies of each presentation afterward.
